Tuna from 269 to 565 thousand pounds sold

Tuna from 269 to 565 thousand pounds sold

A bluefin tuna to 269 pounds, was caught off the coast of Aomori Prefecture in northern Japan (the area known to have been devastated by the earthquake) and has just been auctioned for a record € 565,000!

To buy the big fish was the owner of the famous chain of sushi restaurants Sushizanmai, Kiyoshi Kimura, who has paid the modest sum of 56,490,000 yen.

This is the bluefin tuna the most expensive ever sold, the last record was held by a tuna of 342 pounds sold last year to 32.49 million yen.

With a purchase price so high, a sashimi or sushi prepared by this fish will cost about 5000 yen, but Mr. Kiyoshi Kimura has promised that he was not going to raise prices and the sushi will be sold at a price of 418 yen each .
